| Pollan will have you checking ingredient labels (for corn) and cringing from eating meat (temporarily). He speaks of our "national eating disorder" - how we are torn between what we should have for dinner (junk food? organic food? homegrown food?). Pollan proclaims how a McDonald's meal originates from the cornfields of Iowa, how organic is not always the best, how we should bear full moral consciousness for the origins of our meal. It's an eye-opening book, one that will stick with you for who knows how long. Pollan especially elaborates on how a supermarket seemingly offers much diversity, but really, it's a monoculture - its prime crop is corn, which can virtually be substituted into any meal.
