|This book was an easy read, but to be honest it was kind of boring when all the author,Barbara Ehrenreich, talked about was how she did her jobs. (This went on for about 300 pages...) |
The title made it sound interesting. A short summary about this book would be that she basically goes to 3 different cities and gets a few low paying jobs, just to see how people survive with poverty-level wages. She was curious how anyone survives with jobs that pay just 6 or sometimes 7 dollars an hour. In the three cities, she lived in cheap lodgings. She eventually finds out that no job was enough and that you may need two or three jobs to live under a roof.
All in all, this book talks about how although America seems to be the land of the rich, it really isn't. This book kind of changed my perspective on the poor/underpriviledged class.
