In Jared Diamond's book, he explains how the course of human development causes the white race to be superior in comparison to the other races. He says "History followed different courses for different peoples because of differences among people's environments, not because of biological differences among peoples themselves." He meant that the whites aren't superior to others because of their genes, it's because of the development of guns, germs, and steel, hence the title of this book.

It's quite interesting how Diamond links everything together. First, he gives a brief explanation on how the whites developed much more quickly than the others. He then discusses food development, like animal and food domestication. Using that knowledge, he links animal and plant domestication to germs because many diseases have derived from animals, for example, AIDS and malaria. I found the first half of the book the more interesting, the second half was alright, but I found it boring reading about "How China became Chinese" or "How Africa became black".

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I liked how Diamond links everything back to the concept of human geography. I would have given this book a five, but it was a bit wordy and felt more like a textbook than a book at times.
