John Perkins’ first novel, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, is about a man who gets hired as an international consulting firm. Perkins tells about his own experience working for an international consulting firm which advised the Work Bank in efforts to fund huge loans for LDC’s all around the globe. The LDC's would eventually become bankrupt and easy targets for favors. He travels the world and goes to many countries like Indonesia, Panama, and Saudi Arabia. He explains how he was indoctrinated into the system of cheating poor countries out of trillions of dollars, plunging the countries into insurmountable debt which must then be repaid through the extraction of natural resources, military assistance, and political support. Eventually, he quits and relieves him from guilt in the end. I think this book is very interesting and informative at the same time. It explains the development of countries and economic activities in response to what is happening at that very moment. I recommend this book to whoever wants to uncover the secrets of economic hit men.
