"In 1987, Sudan's Muslim government pronounced death to all males in the Christian south: 27,000 boys fled to Ethiopia on foot. In 1991, they
were forced to flee to Kenya; 12,000 survived to live in a U.N. camp in
Kakuma. Archival footage documents the 1,000 mile flight; we see life in
the camp. We follow three young men who repatriate to the U.S. John Bul
Dau goes to Syracuse, and by the film's end, becomes a spokesperson for
the Lost Boys and Lost Girls of Sudan; Daniel Abol Pach and Panther
Bior go to Pittsburgh. All work several jobs, send money back to the
camp, search for relatives lost in the civil war, acclimatize to the
U.S., seek an education, and miss their homeland." IDB website

This is a great movie about a group of young men who are forced to leave their homes in Southern Sudan. They become refugees and bounce around different refugee camps before finally getting to move to the USA. In additiona to dealing with issues related to migration, refugees, camps, and other topics from the unit 2, it also deals with concepts from Unit 3 (Culture) and Unit 4 (Political Geography).

God Grew Tired of Us is a movie that is about a group of ¨Lost Boys¨ who move to America to escape the tragedy that is happening in their hometown, Sudan. The men had to suffer from wars in their hometown and some watching their family die to walking all the way to Kenya so they can escape it. When they move to America they have to get used to having jobs and taking care of themselves without any help. I would rate the movie a five because it was so interesting to watch and it really dug deep on what it was like to live in Sudan and what the men had to go through and how foreign America was to them and how they had to get used to technology and electricity. I can relate this to AP Human Geography because the movie showed the difference between their lifestyles in Sudan or Kenya and the lifestyle people have in America.

Period 4

The movie "God Grew Tired of Us' documents the harsh life of a group of Christian boys who had to leave their home country of Sudan as refugees. The fled to a  refugee camp in bordering country Ethiopia where all occupants are there in fear of persecution of the Sudanese government. Some of the boys were selected to come to America where they could have a almost entirely new life. Their new lives were documented as they learned something new about the American culture everyday, thoughts on leaving their "brothers" behind, and contacting lost family members.
This movie relates to AP Human Geography mainly because of the types of migration. Forced migration occurred because the "Lost Boys" had to leave their home, since the government was trying to kill them all. There are refugee camps that house the lost boys, but they are also harsh and unsanitary at the same time. When some of the migrated in America, they said that some American don't like them. This shows how natives sometimes feel about immigrants.
I would rate this movie a 3.5/5 because I felt that they could've added more to the movie. They didn't exactly explain why the Sudanese government wanted to persecute the boys. Overall, I though this movie was very informative and everybody of all ages should watch it.
