This book is about how the advancements in America such as the automobile affect the way cities and communities change through suburbanization, and how it also leads to ghettoization. Kunstler holds a pessimistic point of view stating that it breaks apart communties how they once were to the point that neighbors don't even talk to neighbors anymore. As automobiles become affordable and it makes traveling much easier the rich begin to buy them which leads to the creation of suburban areas where they then move to, to live a more peaceful quiet lifestyle. As the people move to the suburban areas and leave the inner city, it begins to form into a ghetto where the poor would live. Kunstler then has a call for action stating that the future requires them to build a better lifestyle.

I gave this book a four star rating simply because I understand what Kunstler is trying to communicate. We see this happening even now with today's technology which keep everyone apart.
