Roger Nygard travels to the sources of the world's major philosophies and talks to everyone from physicist Leonard Susskind to Ultimate Christian Wrestling founder Rob Adonis to answer the questions, Why are we here and what are we supposed to do? Spiritual leaders, scholars, scientists, artists, pizza chefs and the guy next door inform this humorously enlightening documentary about the nature and meaning of life. - from Netflix

This is a great introductory movie to the unit on religion. The filmaker, Roger Nygard, sets out to ask a series of questions about life in general. He then goes to various religious gurus trying to find answers. During this unit of study we will be learning about the basic history and beliefs of the world's major religions. This movie does not address each religion in a systematic way. Rather, Nygard travels the USA and then the world looking for answers to basic questions we all have. Overall, this documentary is entertaining and worth watching.

Kim Ngo, Period 5

In this documentary, Roger Nygard traveled to many different places and asked people's opinions about deep questions such as why are we here on Earth, what is our purpose of lie, what is religion, what is God, what is prayer, etc. Each person gives his/here own unique answers based of own's belief and experiences. What made this documentary unique and worth watching was that it is not biased. The film maker asked questions from ordinary people and people on the street to religious gurus, professors in colleges, minister and pastors in churches. Each gives unique and different answers which allow audience to have variety of different options and a broader view. Some answer the questions in mature and intelligent ways while others answered it in a carefree way which made life seem so easy in this world. Through this documentary, audience can also learn from each different religions around the world and what they believe in. Some of the religions showed in the documentary seemed to have similarities but unfortunately they are segregated and not unite as one. They all believe in God but perceived God in many different ways which has made it very difficult for religions to come together as one. After watching this documentary, I clearly see some religions should come together as one to worship God instead of separating one from another. I also see that same religions practice different methods and do activities differently from one another, seemed to be very confusing. I hope that one day some similar religions can come together and unite as one and share the same goal-worship God, glorify His name, etc.
This documentary also include the question everyone has once wondered, how was the Earth created? As to many scientists, it is through the Big Bang while to others is maybe God or the Earth naturally created itself. It is really cool to see many different ideas coming from people. Most movies only asked advice from famous writers, professors, and philosophers which is sometime biased but this documentary let us see all opinions from ones working at restaurant ans driving taxi to ones in church, provide various opinions. It was a wonderful documentary to watch and it also leave audience with curiosity to answer the questions asked from the documentary.

In this film, "The Nature of Existence", film-maker, Roger Nygard goes all over the world along with the toughest 85 questions he could think of about the purpose of human nature. He reaches all kinds of people and asks them for their answers/opinions/thoughts/feelings/beliefs on those questions.

This was a very interesting film because of all the different and diverse responses. Although it is no surprise that they were different, it gave new perspectives to each answer. There were controversial questions such as "Should people have sex before marriage?", "Where is the afterlife?" and "What is the best way to find happiness?", BUT the biggest question asked was "Why do we exist?". The responses varied depending on their age, education level, etc. This film also gave an insight to the many practices and traditions of religions. Also, it asks questions on the debating topic of which is right, religion or science. An arguable question was "How was the Earth created?". Religious people would most likely claim God did, following the words of the Bible. Others would contradict and prove it was science that created earth. Different views like these open people like me up to reality. It makes you wonder and question your own beliefs.

I rate this movie 4/5.
